Workflow variable or emit named published fails with "Cannot cast ... to class 'java.util.Map'" since 26.09.2-edge

Reproduced

A workflow that assigns a variable or emit named published fails before any task starts on 26.09.2-edge and 26.10.0.

What Badgr ran

Ran the reporter's main.nf (emit: published = ch) and the plain-assignment form with Nextflow 26.10.0 and 26.09.1-edge on macOS (arm64, Temurin 21), locally.

What came back

  • 26.10.0: both forms failed with "Cannot cast object 'DataflowBroadcast around DataflowStream[?]' ... to class 'java.util.Map'".
  • 26.09.1-edge: both forms ran and printed 1.

Run locally with no Badgr compute. 26.09.2-edge was not run, so the exact edge release that introduced it is as reported in the issue.

Checked 2026-10-14 in Badgr’s local development environment.
