SAP provider crashes on streaming tool calls: FunctionObj.arguments has no default

Reproduced

The SAP provider's FunctionObj requires arguments, so a streamed tool-call chunk that carries only a name fails validation.

What Badgr ran

Validated FunctionObj(name="search") from litellm/llms/sap/chat/models.py on LiteLLM 1.104.2 and on source commit 7ff5010, on CPU. No SAP AI Core account was used, so no real stream was replayed.

What came back

  • Both versions raised ValidationError: arguments, Field required.
  • FunctionObj declares name: str and arguments: str, both required.

This confirms the model rejects a name-only chunk, the failure in the issue; the end-to-end streamed conversation was not run. The one-line default the reporter proposes was not applied.

Checked 2026-10-14 in Badgr’s local development environment.
