A deadline alert that undoes the scheduler's database changes can crash the scheduler or lose the Dag run

GitHub issue: https://github.com/apache/airflow/issues/74677

Reproduced

A deadline reference that calls session.rollback() undoes the scheduler's new Dag run, which then crashes the scheduler or silently never creates the run.

What Badgr ran

Ran the reporter's plugin and Dag with apache-airflow 3.3.2, LocalExecutor and a real scheduler and dag processor on SQLite (the issue used Postgres), with the Dag unpaused, then restarted the scheduler.

What came back

  • The scheduler logged "Failed creating DagRun" for rollback_fixed on every pass, including after the restart, and no run was listed for the Dag.
  • The scheduler stayed up for 45 s after the restart, so the crash variant was not seen.

Only the quiet "run is never created" variant was reproduced; the crash variant needs the Postgres behavior in the issue.

Checked 2026-10-14 in Badgr’s local development environment.
